It is a cardboard box that commands the room. It isn’t merely the size that dominates, though it is massive, it is the sheer crispness of the box. This is no ten years beat Christmas tree container of the type so commonly found in garages this time of year. No, if placed in a seasonal context, a box of this caliber can only mean that someone has landed on the correct side of the Naughty/Nice question. One could not sit in a room with a box like this long without being influenced towards a mood of excitement and abundance. That much the box and I share.
Not to fetishise the box, but I haven’t quite finished with its charms… It is also covered with mystical information. Symbols, numbers, trademarks and codes decorate all visible surfaces and I find this comforting. The fact that I don’t understand the information makes it particularly important that there is a lot of it. The more features and figures, the more likely it is that the many things I do not yet know I want from a television have already been provided for me. And I am confident that, when translated, that is what the symbols will confirm, because as little as I may know about televisions, I know a good deal about shopping.
Not bullshit, movie montage, riding a tidal wave of money from place to place, frantically acquiring kind-of shopping. That’s the graphic-yet-vanilla porn of shopping. The calculated assessment of value and desire, the indulgent but unattached craving for an object, the receiving of a sincere offering, these are seduction, arousal and release…
Sitting on top of the box is another type of box, another type of fascination. Therein is contained a new Blu-ray player, my first. A nice combo, no? I am pleased. It’s interesting that I don’t yet know who actually sent it. That always fascinates me. That my life is such that I might have such a nice present and not know who from is a surreal pleasure. Although, by all means, would the appropriate Treasure please claim responsibility and be thanked?
Sitting here in my soft, soft robe, having just packed my exciting New Year’s outfit safely for my journey, surrounded by beautiful, shiny luxuries…
I am well Pleased.
Having said that, it is time to more or less shut down the Goddess shop for a while. There is so much more I would love to do before I declare myself on Official Vacation (with my life it’s hard to tell the difference, so you have to be strict!) but that’s just going to have to be okay. For everyone next on my list of e-mails to send, so sorry, I promise to give you points in your favor for the sacrifice!
I love all of my Treasures dearly, have wonderful holidays and I will have great things in store for you in 2010!
Seasonal Sweets!
